ISO 14064:2018 Carbon Footprint Verifcation
Carbon Footprint verification is now a concern for all stakeholders involved in the issue of climate change. It is fundamental for managing greenhouse gases. Greenhouse Gases are Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous oxide (N2O), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), Perfluorocarbons (PFCs), Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) and Nitrogen trifluoride (NF3). Anthropogenic sources result from various activities such as energy-related activities (e.g., combustion of fossil fuels in the electric utility and transportation sectors), agriculture, Construction, Marine, land-use change, waste management and treatment activities, and various industrial processes. Each greenhouse gas has a different ability to absorb heat in the atmosphere, due to differences in the amount and type of energy that it absorbs, and a different “lifetime,” or time that it remains in the atmosphere. It is therefore important to measure and verify carbon emissions throughout its Life Cycle. Many governments have directives aimed at reducing Carbon emissions.
Third-party verification is encouraged to establish the credibility of the reported reductions. One such verification is ISO14064 which is a voluntary standard which are applicable to any business operations.
